Future BMW M2 in the works
The BMW M2 is on its way with the new 2 Series platform and unique design. The renderings put us in mind of BMW’s Vision EfficientDynamics style, but apparently a new design for the front and rear will be used in a car that is intended to increase competition for Audi’s Quattro GmbH performance arm.
The M2 will have the new F21 platform, set to make an appearance in 2014, with a front engine and rear-wheel drive. Currently two different M2 engines are being tested: a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo with 350 hp, and a tri-turbo powertrain which is being developed to provide the same performance but with better fuel economy.
Not only do the renderings indicate that some style elements from the upcoming BMW i8 might be borrowed, the new M2 should also use lightweight materials as on the new brand, with carbonfibre reinforced plastic. The BMW M2 would be a two-door coupe model which could appear in 2015.
