The Concept A is the vision of an ideal Volkswagen. a new ageClean, sporty and economic - a new progressive design philosophy. The study unites the properties of a sports car with the robustness of an off-roader, resulting in a pioneering concept. A confident coupé, with sleek coupé -style silhouette and the raised stance of an SUV and four-wheel drive, the concept is a perfectly designed crossover of sports car and a compact SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle

Design

At the front, the shield-like front grill which is common to the Passat and Jetta has been developed to emphasise Concept A's off-road styling by forming part of the underbody protection. High-efficiency LED slanted headlights add a further modern touch, and underline the confident appearance of the Concept A.
At the rear, Concept A has a practical hatchback tailgate; but this is coupled to a pick-up style fold-down rear section beneath the rear LED light clusters. This hatch can be opened independently and remain open while driving so long loads can be carried.
Opening wing doors offer perfection and functionality, allowing easy access for front and rear passengers as well as giving a feeling of space and light. On the outside the Concept A's intensive blue colour shade highlight its pure dynamic and strength.

At 4,348 mm long and 1,854 mm wide, Concept A is 144 mm longer and 95 mm wider then the Golf Mk V. The height of Concept A is 1,551 mm, compared with 1,485 for the Golf; while its 2,602 mm wheelbase is 24 mm longer than the Golf's.

Interior

The interior is light, open and spacious. This airy feel is enhanced by Concept A's concertina-style soft-top which slides all the way back to the C-pillar. Inside are four sculpted, patent leather seats offering optimum ergonomic attributes. Ultra-modern facia with stylish and ergonomic controls finish off the astounding interior design.

Power

Concept A is driven by the first natural gas twincharger in the world. Under the bonnet is a highly efficient 1.4 150 PS TSI engine: using Volkswagen's latest turbo and supercharger technology for maximum performance but minimum fuel consumption. Designers say alternative engines, including TDI diesel units, could also be used in the concept. Whatever its source, power is distributed via six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox to all four 20-inch wheels using the 4MOTION system currently employed in the range-topping Passat and Golf R32.
Concept A has evolved to become the 'Tiguan' Volkswagen's new compact 4x4.
